This term Hub 1 has been focusing on Kiwiana and our National Identity, researching and creating an explanation piece which explores an aspect of Kiwiana. Ideas have ranged from who invented the iconic Buzzy Bee, the origins of Pineapple Lumps and the development of Kapa Haka in Aotearoa. Students have focused on skills such as planning, researching and following a clear structure.
Our reading has been around this topic with students finding key information they need in texts to help them with their writing. In our class we also use EPIC reading, which is a online library which holds thousands of books. As a Hub we can see how many books we have read as a class. Recently we reached 200 books!
In Maths we have been working hard on our Number skills, students have been practicing their basic facts consistently and using a variety of strategies to solve problems. Hub 1 have also been setting goals using our Learning Progression Framework in order to identify their own personal area to focus on.
It has been great to see our Hub progressing so well. I look forward to the next term of learning with Hub 1.
